After a painfully slow start to the tourist season, the month of August proved that the Algarve is still the destination of choice, for those who were able to travel here at least. Algarve hotel association AHETA reports that occupancy levels across the region averaged 76% in August. This is just 17% below the 2019 figure and a huge increase on last year when August occupancy dropped by more than 60% compared to 2019.
Tourism professionals are also reporting a busy September with figures only slightly down on 2019 and advance bookings for October are reported to be very healthy when compared to 2020. So there is finally a sense of cautious optimism that tourism is well on the road to recovery. And as for the property market, we are now on track at Fine & Country Algarve to have a record year whilst buyer enquiries continue at an all-time high.
